Our Mission

The Condon Scholarship Foundation is committed to facilitating and providing scholarships to advance post-secondary educational opportunities for rural graduates with diverse abilities, through flexible and non-time-bound awards. Thus, a CHS graduate may receive a scholarship for any 4 years over their lifetime for post-graduate education.

History

Condon Scholarship Foundation (CSF) was chartered in 1995 under “Condon Dollars for Scholars” with $2000 provided by Scholarship America (SA). Berry Miller, a counselor at Condon High School (CHS), convinced a group of dedicated community members to establish a board under guidance from Scholarship America. In the Spring of 1996, over $4000 was given in scholarships to Condon High School graduates. Since then, the amount has increased each year, with $58,209 awarded to Condon High School graduates in 2024. Condon Dollars for Scholars officially changed its name to Condon Scholarship Foundation in 2016, and is an established 501(c)(3).

CSF annually awards scholarships to students in the Condon Community and is unique in its commitment to our community. We proudly offer scholarships that are not time-bound, empowering students to utilize their scholarship at any point in their educational journey, at any stage of their lives. Students can receive a maximum of four scholarships (across four different award years) from CSF. Regardless of age, if you have graduated from Condon High School, you may apply for a scholarship to advance your education in an accredited program for any four years. Our goal is to encourage Condon High School graduates to pursue post-secondary education. This includes but is not limited to: art institutions of higher learning, including junior and community colleges, universities, vocational, technical, or business schools. The firm belief of the board is that young people from our rural area, of all ability levels, have the opportunity for additional education.

Our success is owed to CHS alumni, the general public, Gilliam County Special Project fund, memorial funds, administered donations (Oregon Community Foundation/local organizations), and a hard-working, committed board. Our board meets monthly to keep data current and plan fundraising events. Presently, we publish an annual report in February and hold an annual fall fundraising dinner/auction in October, which the community cherishes.
